Our Story

On his travels through Europe in the mid - 19th century, the Aachen - based pharmacist Leonard Monheim
discovered the precious new delicacy named chocolate - and a great idea was born.

In 1857, Monheim brought an experienced Italian chocolatier to Germany and began preparing a delicious 
“health chocolate”. In his small pharmacy, they produced up to 400 handmade chocolate tablets daily, before Monheim acquired some machines from France in 1865 in order to satisfy the growing demand.
